SEATTLE (AP) - A King County Jail official says a 43-year-old inmate found unconscious in his Seattle cell was declared dead after medics’ efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Capt. Troy Bacon said the Seattle man was booked into jail on Monday on a warrant issued by the state Corrections Department. He died Tuesday evening.

The inmate was not immediately identified. The county medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.

Seattle police will investigate the death and jail officials will work with the local public health department to conduct an internal investigation.
