FAIR OAKS, Ind. (AP) - An air show relocated from Gary to Newton County has been cancelled this year because viewing and parking areas are too soggy after at least 10 inches of rain in 30 days.

The (Munster) Times reported (https://bit.ly/1pCpoXG ) South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority President Speros Batistatos announced the cancellation of the three-day show that was to begin July 11 at Fair Oaks Farms, an attraction about 40 miles south of Gary. It would have featured the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team and other acrobatic air events.

Fair Oaks Farms CEO Gary Corbett said the forecast for the next 16 days wasn’t promising.

The show was held in Gary for more than a decade but canceled last year over federal budget concerns.
