BENTON, Ark. (AP) - A veteran Benton police officer is appealing his three-day suspension for allegedly violating policy.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1jS8ReG ) that the Benton Civil Service Commission will meet Tuesday to consider the appeal from Officer Jason New.

Officials have declined to reveal why New was suspended. Police Chief Kirk Lane has said only that New was suspended June 19-21 for “multiple policy violations.” New said he couldn’t comment on the hearing until after the appeal was settled but that it was all a big misunderstanding.

New is a member of the Police Department’s honor guard and has been employed with the department for 22 years.
