JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A dedication ceremony is planned Wednesday for the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station.

The station serves as the base for Denali National Park and Preserve’s mountaineering operations. It was renamed as part of legislation introduced by U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski in honor of the man credited as the first person to step atop Mount McKinley as part of a 1913 expedition team that made the first successful ascent.

The park says relatives of Harper are expected to attend the ceremony.
