MONITOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Preparations are taking place in the Bay City area for next year’s Michigan State United States Bowling Congress Men’s Tournament.

The Bay City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1rCBAZW ) the event will be hosted jointly by Monitor Lanes in Bay County’s Monitor Township and Bay Lanes in Bangor Township. The event is expected to draw thousands of people to the Bay City area over an 18-weekend period starting in January.

Rick Dodick, who is co-owner of Monitor Lanes and competes in the annual tournament, says it’s “a great revenue builder for the city.” Among the work that’s being done to prepare for the tournament, crews are resurfacing the alley’s 40 lanes.

Improvements also are planned at Bay Lanes. The area last hosted the tournament in 1999.
