MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker says a statement from the attorney for a special prosecutor looking at activity by his recall campaign and conservative groups helps set the record straight.

Thursday’s statement from attorney Randall Crocker says Walker is not a target of the investigation and no conclusions have been made about whether there’s enough evidence to charge him or anyone with a crime. Crocker represents lead prosecutor Francis Schmitz.

Walker says his legal team did not approach Crocker about issuing the statement, and he is not talking with prosecutors about a possible settlement.

The probe was halted last month by a federal judge. Walker calls the investigation a distraction from issues he’d rather talk about like jobs and the economy.
