PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say one person is dead and another hospitalized after someone opened fire in a park.

Police spokesman Trent Crump says the shooting happened Thursday around 8:15 p.m. at a park near 106th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Crump says 22-year-old Dershawn Stuard and a 14-year-old boy were playing basketball when a teenage suspect approached.

He says Stuard was pronounced dead at the scene and the boy suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

Authorities say a suspect was seen fleeing the area on foot, heading north.

Police conducted a search of the area using canines and are working to get a description of the suspect.
