ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Several Albuquerque police officers were hurt and their vehicles damaged after a suspected carjacker led them on a high-speed chase.

Police say officers spotted a vehicle Thursday that was tied to an alleged carjacking and kidnapping that had taken place a day earlier.

Authorities say police confronted the driver, who began hitting patrol vehicles before fleeing.

They say the suspect injured people while speeding toward Tijeras Canyon.

According to police, the driver and two passengers then abandoned the Chevy Avalanche but were taken into custody.

Police are not releasing the suspect’s name pending identification from the carjacking victim. They say the suspect beat the Chevy’s owner in his driveway before taking off with the car.

Authorities say three officers suffered minor injuries when their vehicles were rammed.
