LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas lottery officials have hired the Missouri Lottery’s security director to take a similar job in Arkansas.

The Arkansas Lottery Commission voted Wednesday to hire Daryl Backes as security director. Backes now works as the Missouri Lottery’s integrity and security manager and previously served as a lottery security specialist.

Backes will take over for Lance Huey, who is retiring next week. Huey’s retirement comes nearly after a year after the lottery’s former deputy security director, Remmele Mazyck, pleaded guilty to federal charges after admitting he stole lottery tickets valued at more than $475,000.

Lottery Director Bishop Woosley tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1iBGczy ) that he hired Backes based on his experience, personality and ability to work with others. He’ll be paid $98,500 a year and is expected to start this summer.
