BEULAH, N.D. (AP) - Beulah is making plans for a new wellness center.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/VrVxbS ) that Beulah voters approved a 1-cent sales tax to fund the wellness center on June 10. The wellness center is expected to cost between $5 million and $8 million.

The community park board will meet on July 1 to decide on a board to oversee construction and operations.

Beulah Park Director Bridgette Martens says the center is not about recreation. She says it’s about improving health and wellness.

Statistics presented to Beulah voters said Mercer County’s population is 32 percent obese, 29 percent physically inactive and 10 percent diabetic.
