CHARLETSON, S.C. (AP) - It’s National Mosquito Awareness Week, and Charleston County workers are spreading the word about how to deal with the pests.

Workers from the county’s Mosquito Control Division are going door-to-door in one county subdivision on Friday to provide information to residents on the mosquito life cycle and tips on how to eliminate mosquito egg-laying around their homes.

The workers routinely hand out the information every time they respond to a request by a county resident to spray an area for mosquitoes.

Each year, the Charleston County’s Mosquito Control Division treats over 1 million acres for mosquitoes. About 200,000 of those acres are sprayed from the air while about 800,000 acres are treated with ground spraying.
