WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard says it is searching for a missing diver approximately 35 miles south of Beaufort Inlet.

A statement said the crew on the dive boat Glen Ellen contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 1:15 p.m. Friday reporting the diver was separated from his partner and missing for more than an hour.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and diverted the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island. A crew with five local divers and emergency medical service personnel aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat was dispatched from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon Inlet.

A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City also assisted in the search.
