PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The death of a man who was beaten in Providence has been ruled a homicide by the state medical examiner’s office.

Providence police tell the Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/TEpowa ) that Luis Belmont’s death is the city’s ninth homicide this year.

The 45-year-old Cranston man was assaulted March 13 in the city.

Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin says he did not report the assault or seek medical treatment until a week later, when he was brought to the hospital by ambulance. He died March 31 at Rhode Island Hospital.

Lapatin says they are investigating.
