DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a state trooper who was shot in a gun battle with a suspect has been released from the hospital.

Police say 26-year-old Cpl. Lloyd McCann was released Thursday evening from the hospital and is doing well. McCann is a four-year veteran of the police force.

McCann was shot in the face and hand early Wednesday after state troopers were called to a home in Magnolia for a fight between a woman and her boyfriend.

A trooper later spotted the suspect, 29-year-old Dennis Hicks, on Route 1. After a car chase ending in Magnolia, Hicks got out of his car with a handgun and began shooting at McCann, who returned fire.

Hicks was shot in the upper body and was pronounced dead.
