DETROIT (AP) - Firefighters will go door-to-door in an eastside Detroit neighborhood to speak with residents about fire safety.

The city says Operation Fire Safe begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday on Montclair, French Road, Harding and St. Clair streets.

Fire and life safety literature will be passed out.

Firefighters also will install smoke alarms in low-income homes and tell residents about a law that requires landlords to install smoke alarms in rental properties or face a misdemeanor charge and $500 fine.
