BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Moss Point Police Chief Keith Davis is the new head of the Marine Patrol for the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.

Davis last day in Moss Point is Friday. He begins his new job Tuesday.

MDMR Executive Director Jamie Miller made the announcement during a press conference Thursday in Biloxi. Miller says Davis will bring a new level of professionalism to the agency.

Davis has been in law enforcement for 20 years and was police chief in Moss Point since 2011.

Davis says he saw the opening when it was first announced last year, but began to “get serious” about the position early this year and submitted his resume.

Davis says his primary goal for Marine Patrol is to work with those on the water, rather in an adversarial role.
