MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Maricopa County authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting his girlfriend to death in the desert northeast of Mesa.

Sheriff’s officials say says 21-year-old Matthew Borja has been booked into jail on suspicion of one count each of first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.

They say Borja was confronting 19-year-old Sabrina Vega about an affiliation before he allegedly fired several shots at her.

Deputies responded after receiving a 911 call just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday about a shooting south of the Salt River.
