LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to stealing a red-footed tortoise last year from the Lincoln Children’s Zoo.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1pIomJN ) 25-year-old Michael Sullivan pleaded guilty Friday to misdemeanor theft.

The tortoise named Captain Hook went missing in March 2013 from her enclosure. Zoo officials say they didn’t report her stolen or missing because they thought she would turn up elsewhere in the zoo.

Zoo officials say they received an anonymous tip recently that someone had stolen the tortoise and was keeping her as a pet. Authorities were given an address and later charged Sullivan.

The newspaper reports a woman told authorities that Sullivan gave her daughter the tortoise as a present.
