BARDSTOWN, Ky. (AP) - Nelson County is going to become home to another distillery in the heart of Kentucky’s bourbon country.

The Bardstown Bourbon Co. said Thursday it plans to build a distillery in Bardstown. The venture is expected to create 35 jobs.

Gov. Steve Beshear says the world’s thirst for bourbon continues to grow, and the new venture will help satisfy that demand.

The governor’s office says the $25 million project will include a 45,000-square-foot distillery built in the Nelson County industrial park. The distillery will produce bourbon and other spirits, and the company also plans to build a visitors’ center and warehouses.

Construction is expected to begin this summer and the distillery is expected to open in 2016.

The Bardstown Bourbon Co. will become the fifth distillery in Nelson County.
