BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (AP) - With the ceremonial smashing of a rum bottle, a pirate ship-styled vessel known as Time Bandit has been re-launched on the high seas, er, lake.

The 38-foot replica of a Spanish galleon sank in Big Bear Lake in the Southern California mountains during a fierce storm in February.

Airbags and pumps were used in March to refloat the 16-ton vessel, which was resting on its keel in 12 feet of water.

The San Bernardino Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1lwXRrE ) the Time Bandit made its resurgent voyage on Thursday, coincidentally marking the 100th anniversary of Holloway’s Marina where the ship is docked.

The motorized ship was built in 1968 and appeared in the 1981 movie “Time Bandits.”

It offers tours of the lake situated among peaks of the San Bernardino Mountains.
