BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) - The Department of Environmental Management says about 10,000 gallons of sewage leaked into the Kickemuit (kick-eh-MYOO’-it) River and Mount Hope Bay in Bristol.

WJAR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/TEmIi0 ) that the cause was due to a pipe that cracked on Thursday. It has since been fixed.

Shellfishing has been banned in the area for now.

The DEM says shellfishing could be off-limits for days or weeks.
