CUMMING, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in Forsyth County are investigating a shooting involving a sheriff’s deputy.

WSB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1qNLVEG) that the Forsyth County deputy was on patrol when he encountered a dark-colored pickup truck in the cul-de-sac of a subdivision under construction near Hubbard Town Road late Thursday afternoon.

Forsyth County sheriff’s Maj. Rick Doyle said the deputy noticed the man in the truck had a rifle with him.

Authorities say that as the deputy got out of his car to investigate, the man got out of the truck and pointed the rifle at the deputy. They say the deputy then opened fire on the man.

WSB reports that the 46-year-old man was taken to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Gainesville and was expected to survive the injuries.
