PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Thousands of Unitarian Universalists have gathered in Providence for the church’s annual national General Assembly.

The Unitarian Universalist Association says 659 congregations are represented at the 53rd General Assembly, which runs through Sunday at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The more than 4,600 delegates plan to vote Saturday on a resolution that calls for the church to divest almost all of its holdings in the fossil fuel industry.

On Thursday, some of those attending the assembly joined local clergy in a rally outside the Renaissance Hotel seeking higher wages for hotel workers.
