ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Wasilla City Council has passed an ordinance against aggressive panhandling.

The ordinance, similar to one that’s been passed in nearby Anchorage, takes effect Tuesday.

KTVA reports (https://bit.ly/1jScFMU ) the ban will apply to actively soliciting money or rides within city limits.

First-time offenders will receive warnings. A second offense comes with a $100 fine or eight hours of community services. Penalties rise from there.

People will still be allowed to hold signs asking for money.
