SCOTIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say one person is dead after a fire broke out at an Albany-area apartment building.

Officials tell local media that crews at a nearby fire station were alerted around 8 p.m. Thursday to a blaze at the Ten Broeck (brook) Apartments in the Schenectady County village of Scotia, 15 miles northwest of Albany.

Firefighters from multiple departments battled for the blaze. Officials say the fire appeared to have started in a rear apartment where a woman was found dead. Her name hasn’t been released.

No one else was injured.

The three-story building was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
