MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) - Canoe and kayak racing is back for a return engagement in Mount Clemens.

The second annual Clinton River Canoe Classic is set for Saturday.

The event is hosted by Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Anthony V. Marrocco, who promises a bigger and better day of racing.

He says the Canoe Classic is offering more than $20,000 in cash prizes and is one of only three sanctioned Michigan canoe races that take place in an urban environment.

Its goal is to promote awareness, stewardship and beautification of the Clinton River watershed. A $5,000 environmental project is planned for the watershed from race proceeds.

The Michigan Canoe Racing Association has sanctioned the competition, which includes three professional races and a 3.6-mile amateur kayak race.
