GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) - An Indianapolis suburb plans to rent bicycles for borrowers to ride along local trails beginning next spring.

The Johnson County Community Foundation is providing a nearly $4,000 grant to help Greenwood buy eight bikes. People will be able to borrow the bikes at the city’s community center and go for a ride on the area’s 20 miles of trails.

If the Greenwood program is successful, it may be expanded to nearby Franklin and the Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1wWWVAc ) it could encourage the development of more trails.

The program is modeled after a similar system in downtown Indianapolis, but the larger city’s system has multiple sites at which to rent bikes.
