PORTSMOUTH, VA. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says a southern Ohio native is the new commanding officer of Coast Guard Patrol Forces in Southwest Asia.

Capt. David Petty took over the command in a ceremony last week at the Naval Support Activity center in Bahrain.

Petty is a native of Circleville in southern Ohio. The Coast Guard says he relieved Capt. Robert Hendrickson, another Ohio native from Cleveland.

Petty recently served as the Coast Guard liaison to the Director of Surface Warfare, at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

The Coast Guard says Hendrickson has served as commanding officer since November, 2013. His next assignment will be as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Waesche (WISH’-ee) in Alameda, California.
