ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - A Douglas County jury found a former Roseburg man guilty of raping a girl during the 1990s and early 21st century.

The Roseburg News-Review reports (https://is.gd/m6sF8L) it was the third time John Davis stood trial in the case.

He first went on trial in 2008, but it was stopped when a judge ruled prosecutors couldn’t use online messages and phone calls between Davis and the girl as evidence.

He went on trial for a second time last winter, but jurors couldn’t reach a verdict.

The victim’s mother said her heart stopped when she heard the word “guilty” on Friday. The victim said: “I’m just happy it won’t happen again.”

Earlier Friday, the 49-year-old Davis testified that he was falsely accused.

His sentencing has yet to be scheduled.
