NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Shreveport’s Moonbot Studios has done it again.

The studio behind the Oscar-winning 2011 animated short “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” has won a pair of Daytime Emmys for its work on the animated short film and accompanying app “The Scarecrow.”

“Scarecrow” co-directors Brandon Oldenburg and Limbert Fabian accepted the awards for Outstanding Directing in an Animated Program and Outstanding New Approaches - Original Daytime Program, the latter of which recognizes excellence in interactive media productions.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1lVjeCx ) the win underscores Moonbot’s embracing of innovation and outside-the-box thinking. The studio says the work is only the second YouTube-released video to win an Emmy, and the only one this year.

Commissioned by Chipotle Mexican Grill, “The Scarecrow” animated short is a cautionary tale that tells the story of a socially conscious scarecrow that stumbles across the secrets of processed food - and decides to do something about it.

In the process, the film - which is set to Fiona Apple’s version of the song “Pure Imagination” from 1971’s “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” - sings the virtues of using responsibly raised beef, pork and poultry, in keeping with one of Chipotle’s core corporate principles.

In the “Scarecrow” app, users get to play as the titular character as he explores a food-processing plant.

The Daytime Emmys are only the latest recognition for “The Scarecrow,” which - in addition to garnering over 12 million views on YouTube - has earned six Webby and People’s Choice Awards, as well as two Grand Prix awards and four Gold Lions at the Cannes Lions awards.

The 41st annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were presented in Los Angeles last Sunday.
