WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota oil patch town of Watford City is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The celebration kicks into high gear on June 28 with an evening concert by North Dakotan musical duo Tigirlily. The celebration will also feature free food, a quilt show, clowns, a bouncy castle, local films and arts, crafts and food vendors.

June 29 will feature gospel music and a non-denominational worship service at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds.

Watford City was founded in 1914. The town had a population of just 1,744 in the 2010 census. But it is now the seat of North Dakota’s top oil producing county and has seen its population grow dramatically in the last few years.
