FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The University of Alaska Fairbanks has named two finalists in the search for its next vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education.

The finals are Kathy Mayo and Evon Peters.

Both have extensive experience with Alaska Native organizations. Mayo has been the chief administrative officers at the Tanana Chiefs Conference, and Peter has worked with Native groups and was the coordinator for UAF’s Yukon Flats Center.

Both will meet with members of the public and the university in the next few weeks as part of the selection process.

The successful candidate will replace Bernice Joseph, who retired in 2013 and died in January.
