COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Troopers say two pedestrians have died on South Carolina roads over the weekend.

The Highway Patrol said it closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 26 in Columbia for several hours Sunday after someone walking on the interstate was hit by several cars a few miles north of the Interstate 77 exit.

The name of the person struck has not been released. Troopers are investigating the incident.

In Laurens County, authorities say 73-year-old Edgar Philson was struck and killed as he walked in the roadway on U.S. Highway 76 near Laurens.

Troopers continue to investigate the death.
