OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) - A 25-year-old Marine from Iowa who was killed in Afghanistan was remembered Sunday as a kind and strong young man.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1pCXkb3 ) a large crowd attended Lance Cpl. Adam R. Wolff’s funeral.

Pastor Mark Hornback said he knows Wolff’s family appreciated it. Volunteers helped set up hundreds of American flags along the funeral procession route this weekend.

Adam’s twin brother, Aaron Wolff, said he was grateful for the support.

“Thank you, everyone, for acknowledging the most important person in my life, my brother, as a hero,” Aaron Wolff said.

Adam Wolff died along with two other Marines on June 20 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. All three were assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The funeral ceremony featured photos and videos of Adam Wolff and his family.

His sister, Angela Malone, said she could see that Adam was proud to be a Marine serving his country. Family members said they had noticed Adam Wolff seemed more mature and stronger after joining the Marines, but he was still kind.

Wolff’s parents and his twin brother travelled to Dover, Delaware, to receive his body. Wolff’s mother, Deb Hall, said the Marines in Dover and other places have embraced her family.

Sara Swanson remembered meeting Adam Wolff when she met with eighth graders to talk with them about their possible future plans. Swanson, who is a counselor for the Cardinal school district, said Wolff told her then that he wanted to join the military.

Swanson said she remembers Wolff as “very intelligent.”

Wolff was buried at a small cemetery south of Ottumwa.
