DETROIT (AP) - Midwest retailer Meijer Inc. is preparing to break ground on its second store in the city of Detroit.

Grand Rapids-based Meijer holds an official groundbreaking event on Monday on the city’s west side on the former Redford High School site. Construction is expected to take about a year.

The store is expected to create roughly 500 jobs and feature fresh produce, a drive-thru pharmacy and gas station.

The groundbreaking comes about a year after Meijer opened its first Detroit store at 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in the Gateway Marketplace.
