SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police are investigating a shooting south of Salt Lake City at a party at a residence in Magna.

United Police Det. Ken Hansen says a 22-year-old man was critically wounded by multiple gunshots about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

He told The Salt Lake Tribune (https://tinyurl.com/kuofro6) the victim had attended a party and left, but returned a short time later.

Hansen says people in the neighborhood herd the gunfire and called police.

Metro Gang Unit officers spotted a car fleeing the area and chased it until the driver abandoned the vehicle. Two passengers were taken into custody but later released.

The car has been impounded and an investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to call Unified Police at 801-743-7000.
