GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Five people have been hurt when a car and an ambulance collided in Gaston County.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the wreck happened shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.

Officials say there were two emergency medical technicians in the ambulance and three people in the car. EMS Capt. Chris Hendricks said the ambulance from Stanley Fire and Rescue was responding to a call at the time of the crash.

Four of them were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries.

Their names have not been released.
