BOSTON (AP) - Five of Massachusetts’ nine Democrat members of Congress are facing no opposition in the year’s midterm elections.

Congressmen Richard Neal, James McGovern, Joseph Kennedy, Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch are virtually guaranteed re-election according to a list released Tuesday of candidates who have qualified for the primary ballot.

None are facing any Democratic or Republican opponents.

U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, running for a full six-year term, will face off against selectman Brian Herr, a Republican selectman from Hopkinton. Markey won’t face any Democratic primary opponents.

The most crowded congressional contest is in the 6th District where incumbent Rep. John Tierney is facing four fellow Democrats and Republican Richard Tisei.

Another crowded race is in the state’s 9th Congressional District where incumbent Democratic Rep. William Keating will face the winner of a four-way Republican primary.
