MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - In a rare move, the Minnesota Department of Health has seized control of a Minneapolis nursing home.

The department says Camden Care Center put its residents at risk by failing to correct numerous health and safety violations.

The state took over management of the 87-bed nursing home on Friday, after inspections in recent months found 80 health and safety violations. The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1pPVKPg ) reports there were also concerns that the nursing home’s financial condition had become precarious, and that an exodus of staff would leave residents without care, according to a court receivership order.

It’s only the third time in the past five years that the state Health Department has taken control of a nursing home.

The home’s residents include those with mental illnesses and chemical dependencies.
