SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - This is the second statewide election in South Dakota in which registered independents have the option of voting in the Democratic primary.

The rule came into play in the U.S. House contest and a few other races in 2012.

Independent voters statewide are now offered either a nonpartisan ballot or a Democratic ballot, though some places didn’t have a nonpartisan race in Tuesday’s election.
