HOUSTON (AP) - A suspected drunken driver has been accused of causing a wrong-way traffic accident near Houston that left five people dead and two hurt.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office on Monday announced 39-year-old Efraim Carmona has been charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.

Carmona remains hospitalized from injuries suffered in the wreck late Sunday night.

Investigators say a vehicle driven by Carmona struck a pickup truck. Four adults and one child in the pickup were killed. Another person in that vehicle survived but was transported to a hospital. Details on that survivor were not immediately released.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately provide further information on Carmona’s injuries or an attorney for him.
