VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - Fire officials say six people including a firefighter suffered injuries in a late-night blaze at a residence in Ventura.

The Ventura County Star reports (https://bit.ly/1vnKFWN ) an elderly man was in full cardiac arrest when emergency personnel arrived at the two-story structure late Sunday. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Crews from multiple agencies rescued several people from the smoke-filled residence.

A firefighter who was involved in the rescue of the elderly man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. He was treated and released.

The extent of the other injuries was not immediately known.

The flames were doused in about 40 minutes.

Officials say residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
