WENTZVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A Wentzville daycare provider has been charged with felony child abuse in connection with the 2009 death of an 18-month-old boy.

St. Charles County prosecutor Tim Lohmar says that 40-year-old Lisa A. West was recently indicted by a grand jury and is being held in the county jail on a $100,000, cash-only bond.

Mason Beach died from head trauma while in West’s care at her home daycare nearly five years ago. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1jDOCBu ) reports that West told investigators the boy had fallen down carpeted stairs.

The child’s family won a $707,000 wrongful death lawsuit against West in 2012 after a jury determined she was negligent in caring for the child.
