BOSTON (AP) - The lawyer for a man accused of killing a western Massachusetts native living in Boston and attacking three other women last year plans an insanity defense.

The Springfield Republican reports Monday (https://bit.ly/V4OMfr) Jeffrey Denner said in a court filing in Boston that the defense of Edwin Alemany plans to rely on his “lack of criminal responsibility” because of “mental disease or defect” at the time that Wilbraham native Amy Lord was killed.

Prosecutors said 24-year-old Lord was kidnapped from her South Boston apartment, robbed and fatally stabbed and her body dumped in a Boston park last July. Alemany is also accused of nonfatal attacks on three other women.

Denner has said 29-year-old Alemany, who is held at Bridgewater State Hospital, has a history of untreated mental health issues.

The trial is scheduled for December.
