WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington police arrested a man they say tried to retrieve 72 pounds of whole frozen chickens he stole from a delivery truck and hid at a daycare.

It happened about 10:45 a.m. Friday. Police say a man stole the frozen chickens from a truck making a delivery to Fresh Grocer on West 4th Street. Officers say the man hid the chickens at a daycare behind the grocery and fled.

Police gave the chickens back to the delivery driver.

Authorities say the man who stole the chickens returned to the daycare, but was confronted by an employee. Police say the man cut the employee on the back and hand with a knife.

The man was arrested after a foot chase.

Forty-nine-year-old Ronald Johnson of Wilmington is charged with assault and theft.
