MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Jurors in Missoula County found a 21-year-old man guilty of negligent endangerment for jumping off a bridge over the Clark Fork River last summer and landing on a man who was floating down the river on an inner-tube.

The Justice Court jury deliberated for about 30 minutes Monday before returning the verdict against Corey Allen Hewitt of Missoula.

Andy Hill suffered broken bones in both legs along with damaged tendons and muscles surrounding his knees last July 21. He still uses a cane.

Prosecutors say Hewitt knew it was illegal to jump off the bridge and that he failed to look upriver before jumping.

Hewitt’s attorney, Reed Mandelko, said Hewitt made a mistake, and it was an accident.

Hewitt’s sentencing is set for Thursday.
