AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - A public memorial service will be held for former Auburn player Philip Lutzenkirchen in his high school football stadium.

The service will be held on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT at Lassiter High School’s Frank Fillmann Stadium in Marietta, Georgia.

Georgia state troopers have said Lutzenkirchen died in a one-car crash early Sunday morning near LaGrange, Georgia that also killed the driver.

Lutzenkirchen, who was 23, was a popular player who set Auburn’s career record for a tight end with 14 touchdown catches.

Auburn is also planning a public memorial at an undetermined date.

Lutzenkirchen’s biggest play was catching the game-winning touchdown to beat Alabama in the 2010 Iron Bowl. The Tigers went on to win the national championship.
