LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Pulaski County jail is set to close again because its inmate population is growing too big.

The sheriff’s office says the jail had 1,281 inmates as of Monday morning - which is above the facility’s capacity of 1,210 inmates. Sheriff Doc Holladay says the jail will close at noon Tuesday to new offenders.

Pulaski County is one of several detention centers throughout the state facing major overcrowding problems. The Legislature is set to take up a measure this week during its special session that would provide additional funding for jail and prison beds.
