BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department is gearing up to stock a record number of walleye lakes this year.

Fisheries production and development supervisor Jerry Weigel says 156 waters are scheduled to get a share of 9 million fingerlings.

Twenty years ago, only about 60 waters were stocked with walleye fingerlings each year. That number grew to 100 in the early 2000s.

Weigel says the growth in walleye waters is directly linked to the number of public fishing waters managed by Game and Fish.
