BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Southern University’s main campus in Baton Rouge has a new acting chancellor.

Flandus McClinton Jr., vice chancellor for finance and administration, was appointed to the chancellor’s job Monday by the Southern University System Board of Supervisors.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1jDQqKV ) the decision came in a unanimous vote. McClinton will serve in both roles, while the system searches for a permanent chancellor to replace James Llorens, whose contract expired Monday.

A public battle over Llorens’ exit was waged for several months. The board twice voted not to extend his contract.

Several people spoke against McClinton’s temporary appointment.

Thomas Miller, president of the Faculty Senate, said he’s concerned that McClinton, an accountant by trade with a master’s degree in business administration, doesn’t have the academic experience to serve over the entire campus.
